I must admit it is quite discouraging looking at this blog. But…it is a fits and starts language learning blog and I guess that’s what it is.
The last few weeks I am doing a lot more language stuff, although I cannot really call it studying. I haven’t done anki for months, but I try to do lots of listening. Each day I listen to John in both Uyghur and Mongolian. In Uyghur I hear each word now so I am very encouraged. Mongolian has a ways to go, but still is partly understandable.
Last week I also got a whole bunch of language materials for languages I want to do, even if not for right now.
For about a week I worked quite a bit on Yiddish and found it very addictive. I understand at least 80 % so that is very nice. I also looked at Frisian but that is a lot harder to understand. I found a good site for that though.
Besides working on Mongolian and Uyghur(mainly listening and working with Mongolian worship songs) I have been aiming to listen to French, German, Turkish, Kazakh , and Mandarin as much as I can fit it in.Today I laid down while listening to Kazakh and was dismayed that I only was able to isolate and understand one word in the whole half hour section. I guess I have lost a lot of Kazakh. I also have a block against spending time with Kazakh, maybe because I am worried it will negatively affect my Uyghur, but I probably should work on it anyways. The languages I learned simultaneously I would not mix up, so hopefully I can keep Kazakh and Uyghur separate in my mind. Listening to it today it did not even sound like a Turcic language!
